Body ,Soul And Spirit

2016-04-09

  • Upon death, man’s body decomposes into the basic elements and returns to the earth.
  • Dust thou art and to dust shalt thou return.

Gen. 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

Ps. 104:29 Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.

  • One of the most widely held teachings of churchianity today is that within man’s body lives a soul.
  • This soul is the ethereal part of man that leaves the body at death and goes to heaven or to hell, or (in the beliefs of Catholicism) to purgatory.
  • The soul is thought to be the real you inside the physical body.
  • The soul is assumed to be an immortal spirit that can never die.
  • This runs counter to the plain teaching of Scripture which clearly states, The soul that sinneth it shall die.

Ezk.18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

Ezk.18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

H-3 Satan, the Father of Lies

  • This most widely held fallacy originated when Satan deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden.
  • Thus Satan is called the first liar in Scripture.

John. 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Gen. 3:5 For Elohim doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as mighty ones, knowing good and evil.

  • Then the aging process began.

Gen. 2:16 And Yahweh Elohim commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
2:17
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

  • Had Adam and Eve not eaten the fruit, they would have retained the ability to live forever.
  • They would have had everlasting human life by living in the Edenic paradise without aging.
  • This first lie came down to us in the form of the “immortal soul” doctrine not found in the Bible.
  • The Bible nowhere says that we have an immortal soul.
  • It clearly teaches that we are mortal.
  • The word mortal comes from the Latin mors which means death.
  • Webster’s New World Dictionary defines mortal as that which must eventually die; of man as a being who must eventually die; of this world; causing death; deadly; fatal.

    H3- The Breath of Life

  • Man’s dust-formed body was lifeless until animated by the breath of life (spirit).

Gen. 2:7 And Yahweh Elohim formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

  • The word “soul” means creature, being, and a life.
  • When Yahweh blew air (spirit) into Adam’s lungs, Adam became a breathing, living creature.
  • The existence of a living creature demands a union of a dust-formed body and the breath of life.
  • Before Adam received the breath of life he was a dead soul, a nonliving creature.
  • When air was forced into his lungs, oxygen was carried by the blood to all parts of the body and man became a LIVING soul.
  • When man dies and the breath (spirit) goes from him, he then becomes a DEAD soul, a dead creature.
  • We are a soul; we are a life, a creature, a being.
  • We are not IMMORTAL. We can die. It is so appointed.

Heb. 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die but after this the judgment.

  • The word soul is translated from Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary (5315) nephesh.
  • Nephesh occurs 752 times in the Old Testament and is translated 44 different ways.
  • The meaning of nephesh is creature, person, man, life, and lives.
  • Strong’s Greek is (5590) psuche. The Greek word psuche occurs 105 times in the New Testament. It is variously translated soul, life, lives, mind, you, us, heart, and heartily.
  • Psuche in Greek and nephesh in Hebrew mean the same.
  • Examples are

Rom. 11:3 Yahweh, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.(Psuche)

1 Kings.19:10 And he said, I have been very jealous for Yahweh Elohim of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life,(Nephesh) to take it away.

Acts.2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul(Psuche) in the grave, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Ps. 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul(Nephesh) in the grave; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

H3-We do not possess immortality, but seek it.

Rom.2:7
To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

  • Man is promised immortality through the Savior’s return and being in the first resurrection.
  • H3-Soul Means Life

  • Nowhere does the Bible say that only a man’s body dies.
  • The Bible clearly declares that the person himself died.
  • Never does Scripture say that the body died and the person himself (his soul) went somewhere else.
  • When life departs from a person, death ensues, and the body is LIFE-less.
  • Man’s soul refers to man himself and the life he possesses.
  • The soul is not an entity distinct from the person’s body.
  • The word translated soul mean life.(Nephesh)
  • H3-Immortal Soul Unscriptural.

  • Nowhere in the Bible do we find the term IMMORTAL SOUL mentioned in those words.
  • Neither is soul ever referred to as undying, or eternal, or ever-living.
  • The soul is mortal. It can be killed. It can die. Note the following verses.

Lev.23:30 And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.

Josh.10:35 And they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

Ps.22:29 All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.

Ps.78:50 He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;

Ps.89:48 What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.

Jer.18:20 Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, and to turn away thy wrath from them.

Ezk.18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

Ezk.18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

Ezk.22:27 Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain.

Rev.16:3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.

  • Man is a body in which dwells the bread of life.
  • That life cannot exist without the body, and the body cannot exist without the life principle.
  • In the resurrection, it is the body that will be raised up.
  • The Bible does not teach that the soul will come back from heaven or somewhere to get into the body.
  • It is the body that is raised from the state of the dead and changed to spirit in the first resurrection.

Rev.20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of Elohim and of Messiah, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
